A word from the winner:
"When you surround yourself with talented, hardworking, and more importantly GOOD people, magic tends to happen. In this case we all happen to be Canadian, and we all share the same passion for dance and the rhythmic and percussive arts. This album 'Earfood' by Roy Hardgrove was a heavy inspiration to all of us on this project. We are all amazed and truly thankful for the tremendous support received in the first Virtual Rhythms contest held by CHRP. I feel really good about how many 'TAP FANS', new or recurring, this event brought to the community's attention! They're out there people! Congratulations CHRP, and Thank you! See you in the CHI! Sincerely, Matty Shields."

2nd Place: Anabel Watson / Seach, Know, Understand?

Be The Groove

A word from the winner:
"Breath" allowed me to combine my two favorite activities: drumming and filmmaking. I currently live in Oakland, but used to live in Chicago and perform with members of Be the Groove. This was the perfect opportunity to travel back to the Windy City and write a piece together. With "Breath," I wanted to explore three things: the style of BTG, the people of BTG, and Chicago. I wanted to capture a snapshot of them doing what they love in this amazing city. Chicago did not disappoint. We shot this over a single weekend in March and, wouldn't you know, it snowed. A big thank you to Stephanie Paul, Casey Baker, and Kevin Brown for performing and surviving the cold. Thanks to Kevin Richey, who flew in from LA to shoot it. Thank you to Michael Masar for helping me produce, and to my wife, Emily Zulauf, for covering every crew position a film shoot can have. Most importantly, thank you to CHRP and everyone who voted. This is hopefully the first of many video collaborations for us. - Dan Truog, "Breath" director
