Born in the early 20th century, modern dance began as a reaction against ballet. It focuses less on structured steps and more on a dancer’s interpretations. Movements are often derived from an expression of one’s inner feelings, emotions, and moods. Modern consists of various explorations including that of the mind, body, space and relationships as a unique dialogue is utilized.
